Mukilteo Presbyterian Church (MPC) departed from its long-time denomination, the Presbyterian Church/USA, in 2016 and joined the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (or "ECO," the abbreviation for "Evangelical Covenant Order" of Presbyterians). This move came out of a discernment process in which the majority of MPC agreed that the ECO Presbyterian denomination was a better match for MPC's Bible-based and Christ-centered theology, ethics and mission.
At MPC, we believe it is vitally important for an individual church to be formally connected with a larger denominational body. The ECO-Presbyterian denomination provides relational support, structures of accountability and shared beliefs about the authority of Scripture, the Holy Trinity, and Christ's atoning death, resurrection, ascension, triumphant return and more. We also share our ECO-Presbyterian denomination's deep commitment to evangelism and mission: Our call to share the good news of God's gospel rescue for all and to embody God's salvation in all the ways a church can! We resonate, as well, with our ECO Presbyterian denomination's desire to see all of God's people released in ministry, including both men and women, older and younger persons, and people of all cultures, as we move in the Holy Spirit's egalitarian, intergenerational, and intercultural empowerment expressed at Pentecost (Acts 2). For these reasons and more, we are thankful for our denominational home as ECO-Presbyterians.
